Discipleship

The Elders and Leadership of Kessid Church have a passion to obey the command that Jesus gave us in Matthew 28 to make disciples. The Genesis Discipleship Training Course is designed to unify us as a church in shared belief and values, as well as prepare us for ministry. The course is broken down into six classes which represent six main tenants of the Christian Faith and core convictions of Kessid Church.

We understand that there are many teachings in our culture concerning each of these topics, and we want to look at them through the lens of scripture to deconstruct any mistruths, and reconstruct them in a way that is faithful to scripture and the message of the Gospel.

The first class, Vision/Membership 1.1, will serve as the prerequisite necessary for membership at Kessid Church. You do not need to complete the entire Genesis Course to become a member at Kessid Church.

All of the classes combined, 1.1-1.6, represent the Genesis Discipleship Training Course and serve as a prerequisite for ministry leadership at Kessid Church. This Course is a practical way for us as a church to be faithful to “equip the saints for the work of the ministry,” as Ephesians 4:12 calls us to do.  You can attend any of the classes whenever you like, and you do not have to complete them in order. If you happen to miss a class, you can make it up in the next session. We will teach the Genesis Discipleship Training Course 5-6 times a year.

Course Overview

1.1 - Vision/Membership Class

This Vision/Membership 1.1 class will give you an overview of Kessid Church as a whole.  Whether you’re interested in becoming a member or just want more information on the history, mission, and values of Kessid, this is an excellent way to accomplish that. We will also cover the Biblical idea behind Covenant Membership, the responsibilities of Pastors/Elders to the body, as well as the responsibilities of church members to the body. At the end of this class you will be given the opportunity to sign the membership covenant and become a member of Kessid Church.

1.2 – The Gospel

The Gospel 1.2 class will look at the central idea of the Christian faith, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Through a study of Kessid Church’s Narrative Theology, we will look into the story of redemption and reconciliation that God is telling through His Gospel. This class is a great way to gain a better understanding of who Jesus is, and who we are as individuals in relation to the Gospel.

1.3- The Bible

The Bible 1.3 class will discuss the 66 books that make up the Bible, and God’s revelation to us through them. We will look into biblical inerrancy, basic bible study methods, understanding context, and the relevance of the scriptures. This class is beneficial for anyone wanting to learn more about the bible and the study of it.

1.4- Worship

The Worship 1.4 class will look at the idea of worship as a whole, and not just from a musical standpoint. We will look at the different ways that we can worship God with our lives, and also the skills that God has blessed us with. This class will be a great way of understanding God’s call for us to be worshippers in every area of our lives, not just on Sunday mornings.

1.5- Evangelism

The Evangelism 1.5 class will discuss the call we have as Christians to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. We will look into why we should evangelize, methods on how to share our faith, as well as discuss how to live lives that reflect our faith in Jesus. This class is a great way to learn practical methods of sharing our faith with family, friends, co-workers, and even strangers.

1.6- Leadership

The Leadership 1.6 Class will look at the idea of leadership in a different way than most would expect. In this class we will study how Jesus called leaders to be the first to serve. We aim to equip you to lead like Jesus did, and understand the call to servanthood. We will also discuss the unique ways that God has designed us as men and women to live lives for Him.

FAQ’s about Genesis Discipleship Training

Do I have to sign up ahead of time to attend?

You do not need to sign up ahead of time to attend, but prior notice would be helpful so our staff can plan ahead for materials and seating arrangements. However, if you are in need of childcare we do ask that you notify us ahead of time so that we can appropriately staff the children’s area.

Can I still serve in the church if I don’t attend?

You can absolutely still serve in any ministry of Kessid Church if you decide to not attend the Genesis Course. The course is designed to equip our members about the mission of the church, and also the mission for us as individuals as the body on a deeper level. Also, this class helps us as a church to have a process and a standard for ministry leadership.

Do I have to attend Genesis to be a member of Kessid Church?

To fulfill the requirements of membership at Kessid Church you must attend the Vision/Membership 1.1 class only. You can then decide if you would like to continue with classes 1.2-1.6 of the Genesis Course. Members are not required to attend Genesis, but we do highly recommend it in their discipleship and sanctification process.

What if I miss a week?

The Genesis course will be taught continuously throughout the year. If you have to miss a class for any reason you can simply attend that class in the next session. Sessions will start about every 6-8 weeks.

Do I have to start with the first class?

To complete the entire course you must go through all six weeks, though do not have to start with the Vision/Membership 1.1 class. You can start at any week in the process.

Is there a cost to the Genesis Course?

The course is free for anyone to attend.
